PDH Lectures - Last Updated 01/19/10

Engineering EXPO is pleased to offer 7 hours of PDH course lectures on the day of the event. The lectures are $48 for AM & $48 for PM - $96 total for the day. They will run from 9 AM to 4 PM.

               PDH Lectures

Chilled Water Solutions In Residential & Commercial Applications 1 ½ Hrs. 9:00 – 10:30 am

This course will discuss the misconception that Chilled Water units for heating and cooling are designed for large commercial applications only and require large cooling towers. Learn about the features and benefits of smaller, self-contained units that can deliver heating and cooling to residential and commercial spaces, which will add flexibility to any design. This course will also discuss product applications, including general heating and cooling, zoning and radiant heating.

Heating Efficiency: Offering Solutions To High Home Heating Costs 1 ½ Hrs. 10:30 am – Noon

This course will deal with the ongoing struggle to find ways to save on residential heating bills. From boilers to controls, learn about the products on the market today that can make your next project more energy efficient.
The Chilled Water Solutions In Residential & Commercial Applications seminar will be conducted by Rob Morrison, of Venco Sales, Inc., manufacturer's representative of the Unico Small Duct High Velocity Heating & Air Conditioning System as well as 14 other manufacturers of quality heating and air conditioning equipment. Rob has been a registered AIA trainer for the past 5 years.
The instructor for the Heating Efficiency: Offering Solutions To High Home Heating Costs will be Vinnie Ventura, of Venco Sales, Inc. Vinnie specializes in home heating efficiency products and has been a lead trainer on outdoor reset controls for Venco Sales since 2007.
Finalizing and integrating (previously submitted in separate emails) the PEC presentations at EXPO for 4/11/2010. There may be an additional course (s) at 8 AM and/or 4 PM, if we receive permission to start early and/or end late from EXPO and the Tappan Zee High School . Those courses would be managed and approved by CED (Gil Gedeon, President). CED is an Affinity PDH provider with NYSSPE. Gil is the Treasurer of the NYSSPE Rockland Chapter and has offered to help PEC/NYSSPE/EXPO with the courses.

Lecturer: Rob Morrison, Venco Sales, Inc. 755 Park Ave. Suite 300 Huntington, NY

PEC Youth Open Forum 1 Hour - Noon – 1:00 pm
This forum, opened to the general attendance, offers the opportunity to hear first hand from young practicing engineers, including Anthony Fasano from Maser Consulting, Peter Helseth of the Shaw Group and Jeremy Billig of McLaren Engineering. It will feature a brief narrative by each participant on engineering college curriculums,  graduate programs, licensure, career paths and much more, followed by a brief questions and answers period.

Lecturers: Anthony Fasano, P.E., Maser Consulting, Peter Helseth, P.E., Shaw Group and Jeremy Billig, P.E., McLaren Engineering Group

AFTERNOON CLASSES

Air Barriers 1 ½ Hrs. 1:00 – 2:30 pm
Seminar attendees will learn about the differences between the function of an “air barrier”, “vapor barrier”, and “weather resistive barrier”.  They will also learn how to increase energy efficiency and protect exterior building envelopes from damage due to water.

Lecturer:  Keith F. Lashway, P.E. Area Director of Market Development and Technical Services

Masonry: Beyond the Details 1.5 Hour(s)   2:30 – 4:00 p.m.
Some masonry details look good in concept, but are difficult, or even impossible, too actually build.  Program looks at cost-effective details that perform, offering designers and specifies practical advice on coordinating details with the building’s unique elements.  Program also focuses on proper “rain screen” design.  Attendees will receive information on the right and wrong ways to design a cavity wall system.

Lecturer:  Keith F. Lashway, P.E. Area Director of Market Development and Technical Services
